Identify the floor below

Concrete, wood framing, finished flooring, and upper stories have different risks. Flooring protects surfaces and improves grip, but it does not increase structural load capacity.

  • Identify the subfloor
  • Check building load questions with a professional
  • Locate moisture sources

Match thickness to use

Light exercise needs differ from repeated barbell drops. Follow flooring and equipment guidance, and use a lifting platform when the training style requires load distribution and impact control.

  • Define expected impacts
  • Check door clearance
  • Plan edge transitions

Control seams and movement

Loose tiles can separate under sleds or rolling benches. Interlocking edges, tape, adhesive, or wall-to-wall compression may be appropriate depending on the product and room.

  • Orient seams away from travel
  • Test bench rolling
  • Keep edges from curling

Manage odor and moisture

Ventilate rubber products as directed and keep water from becoming trapped below the floor. Garage drainage and basement moisture need a deliberate plan.

  • Clean before installation
  • Maintain drainage paths
  • Lift sections periodically to inspect
