Use the lowest number, not the room label
Measure slab-to-obstruction at all four corners. Garage slope, beams, ducts, openers, and lights often make the usable height lower than the advertised ceiling. Reserve more than a token gap when uprights or top hardware must be inserted from above.
Worked example: an 88-inch basement
With an 88-inch lowest obstruction, a Titan T-2 71-inch variant leaves 17 nominal inches. That allows more flexibility than the taller options, but pull-up comfort, top hardware, and floor slope still need an on-site check.
Selection order
First eliminate racks that fail assembled-height and installation-clearance checks. Next compare safeties and bench positions. Only then compare price and attachment breadth. Never shorten an upright unless the manufacturer provides an approved configuration.
