The four rectangles to tape

Mark the rack feet, the loaded bar line, the bench's full movement path, and storage doors or pegs. The union of those shapes is the operating footprint. A rack fits only when those shapes avoid doors, utilities, vehicles, and the room's exit path.

Worked example

A PR-4000 30-inch-depth × 50-inch-width configuration in a 10 × 10-foot room appears easy. Centering an 86.6-inch bar leaves about 16.7 inches per side before walls—usable but not generous. Rear plate pegs can consume rack depth; a bench and spotter arms consume the front. Draw all of them before approving the room.
